Agneepath swept music awards at TOIFA 2013

Agneepath bagged two awards in the music category at the first edition of (TOIFA) Times of India Film awards 2013 held in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Ajay Atul again bagged an award for their music direction in Agneepath. Earlier this year, they had received Star Dust and Mirchi Music awards bringing to a total of around nine awards. Sonu Nigam also added another trophy for his melodious track ‘Abhi Mujhme Kahi’ that holds a special place for him. He also won Zee Cine awards, Radio Mirchi Music award, Lions Gold Award and MTV Video Music Award as the best playback singer male this year

Gulzar took away the TOIFA for his lyrics in the popular romantic track Saans from Jab Tak Hai Jaan. He had also won Filmfare awards for the same track.

Best playback singer female category was won by Shalmali Kholgade for the track Pareshaan from Ishaqzaade. Kholgade made her debut as a lead vocalist in bollywood playback singing with this under the music of Amit Trivedi, which got her critical acclaim and now many awards.

Other winners in the music category include Pritam  who won best background score for Barfi! and Anita Kushwaha who bagged best sound recording for Talaash.

Anurag Basu’s Barfi! turned out to be the top winner with trophies for best film, best director, best actor and best actress.

TOIFA Special: The Awards Show Report Plus Fabulous Pictures!

.....

For the playback female and male category, there was a bit of confusion as to who should accept for Sonu Nigam for ‘Ab Mujh Me Nahin’ – Agneepath. Presenter Mughda Ghose announced Karan Johar to come up, but music directors Ajay and Atul pipped him to the post and thanked Sonu for giving them a chance on the song. It was a touching moment that was followed up when they emerged as the underdog winners for Best Music, beating out Pritam for both Cocktail and Barfi. Atul addressed their utter surprise at even winning and the honour of being nominated in such a category. He highlighted how thankful they were to Riteish Deshmukh for recommending them to Karan Johar based on their extraordinary Marathi output. A poignant and heartfelt speech that will hopefully solidify their position in the music industry.
