Sonu Nigam dedicates his award to parents
Updated: Sep 23, 2019, 12:28 IST | The Hitlist Team | Mumbai

My own king

Bagging the Magnificent Performing Arts Award at 21st Century Icon Award in UK, Sonu Nigam attributes his prowess as a singer to the freedom he was given by his parents to choose a path he desired. "My parents didn't force me to sing on stage. It was my decision. As a child, I would listen to a lot of songs, ghazals and film music, and learned [the art] by myself. I learned music [professionally], quite late. It was a passion, and that's what's made me the artiste I am today," he says.

Alka Yagnik or Sunidhi Chauhan: Rate the Best Female Co-Singer with Sonu Nigam

The Modern Rafi of Bollywood music industry, Sonu Nigam along with Alka Yagnik, has given us very memorable tracks to render on. Their voice as a duo is something that will make you fall in love with music if you are not a fan of Bollywood music.

The classical touch to their voice has remained dominant in these changing times of music. Many singers now use a lot of electronic and auto-tuning but Sonu-Alka has been very much appreciated for not changing their style. Some of their famous tracks are Suraj Hua Maddham, Deewana Hai Dekho, Bole Chudiyan, Pehli Pehli Baar and many more. Won’t you love getting lost in their melodic songs?

The duo of Sonu and Sunidhi made us fall deeply in love with music. Their bond was enchanting for a very long time. Together they have sung many hits for a number of movies.

Also, it was Sonu to have given Sunidhi Chauhan her big deal. The King of Chord gave us good mesmerizing vocals with Sunidhi. Together they were inseparable and the 1990s was their time to have made a great impact on the industry. Some of their hits include Mere Haath Main, Dekho Na, Ruki Ruki, Do Pyaar Karne Wale, etc.

Who is your favorite duo in the music industry? Alka-Sonu or Sunidhi-Sonu.

Why we need to hear more of Sonu Nigam’s songs
Today’s generation needs more of Sonu Nigam's voice.

Today, with rising technology and auto-tuning, what we have lost is originality in the song. The essence of perfection is lost in a world full of mechanical music. Don’t you agree? Sonu Nigam was the one who came into Bollywood when classical music still had a true essence and natural element to it. He took the industry by storm and was also compared to Rafi and was nicknamed Modern Rafi.

There was a time when Bollywood music, as well as lyrics, had some meaning to it. And that was the music we grew up listening to. And that is what Sonu Nigam gave us which no other present artist can ever make. He surely made us Deewana for music as if Kal Ho Na Ho. He is a great singer and has not just sung in Hindi but also given a shot for Bengali, Oriya, Tamil, Punjabi, Marathi and many more. A great versatile singer of all time.

Give Sonu Nigam a song from any genre, be it as difficult and complicated, and he will have his way with it, not just making it a cakewalk but also a hit. It was at the age of 4 when he performed on stage with his father, Agam Kumar, that made him find his love for music. He is very gentle and kind at heart and a humble guy. Once he dressed in rags and was not at all recognizable, he went on the street and was singing songs. His voice just knows how to do perfect justice to each of his songs. He steps into the character as if it is he himself. From love to party to spiritual, he has sung it all.

Sonu Nigam has given us music to last a lifetime. He is truly a king when it comes to music and after so many years, we still can’t get enough and would love to see more of Sonu Nigam soon. Don’t you agree on the same?

Kumar Sanu vs Sonu Nigam: The male voice we loved alongside Alka Yagnik
Which duet do you prefer? Alka-Sanu or Alka-Sonu

During the ’90s, we can claim that the industry was dominated by the duo of Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu. Their voice was incredible and unbreakable. They together gave numerous hits that are now nostalgic. Their voice was the ruler of everyone’s heart. And so their era of the 90s could be claimed to be the golden era. Some of their hits as a duo were Chura Ke Dil Mera, Baazigar O Baazigar, Teri Chunariya, Ladki Badi Anjani Hai, Dil Ne Yeh Kaha Hain Dil Se, do I need to put in any more songs to make you believe their pair was incredible?

Sonu Nigam is the king of playback singing and Alka Yagnik, could we say, is the queen? They both together gave us a range of songs to groove on and become Deewana. Their music is enough to give goosebumps and their voice has won hearts all over. The duo has been at their best. With the changing music industry, their classical singing is something that will never be replaced. Alka-Sonu duets that we used to get lost to during the 90s are Suraj Hua Maddham, Deewana Hai Dekhi Bole Chudiyan, Pehli Pehli Baar Hai and the list is too long. Isn’t the duo enough to get you to fall in love with music?

Which of the above duo is your favorite?

On and on one can read about manyfold comparisons about SonuJi with other singers.
As for my opinion non of them can compared with/to HIM. Every singer - and so too SonuJi - has his/her own style and it's the choice of the music directors and/or producers who will sing which song.
So sometimes, and every one of us has his/her own taste and opinion, it might happen that a song will appear strange to us and we think that someone else would have done better justice to the song.
Opinions are Ok - but I think it's strage to do comparisons. The only thing you might compare is the clearly musical part - if one is in or off tune, if the pitch matches, means things that can clearly be measured, but nothing else.

Anyway I will post here those - for me strange comparisons by media.... It's open for discussions, but be aware that's its only the author's opinion !
